Mercer Caverns
Visit the magnificent subterranean wonderland that is Mercer Caverns, discovered in 1885 by Walter Mercer. 45 minute guided tours of the caverns are offered daily as are hands on activities, like panning and fossil recovery, at the Mercer Caverns Mining company.
Horseback Riding
Take the family on a stunning tour of Calaveras County on horseback. Calaveras boasts true Gold Country landscapes from California’s heritage of the “wild, wild west” with classic rolling golden hills framed by pine forests and shady cottonwoods.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park
The Calaveras Big Trees State Park is known for its two groves of giant sequoia trees at 250 to 300 feet high and 25 to 30 feet across. The park offers great picnic areas, as well as an opportunity for trout fishing and a dip in the Stanislaus River.
California Cavern State Park
Delighting visitors since 1850, the California Cavern State Park features an enchanting trail with beautiful crystalline formations in historical and recently discovered pristine areas. Guided expeditions of the wild caverns are also available by reservation. Fantastic gift shopping for books, science, nature, mineral and gem supplies and educational toys.
Wineries
Calaveras County offers an ideal climate for vineyards, and the Murphys area is home to more than 20 wineries, most with tasting rooms on Main Street. Enjoy wine tasting, browsing eclectic shops, antiques and art galleries, and fine dining in Murphys.
